About Gareth

Ever since appearing on Pop Idol where he finished a close runner-up, Gareth has continued to entertain us. He has released several singles and albums, enjoying significant success in the charts, and also featuring on various other albums often connected with shows. As well as performing gigs in a variety of venues both home and abroad, Gareth has taken to the stage in musicals such as Joseph, Les Miserables and Footloose, featured in concerts including A Spoonful of Styles and Drewe and Mad About The Musicals, and is regularly seen as the prince or title character in pantomimes at Christmas. Another string to his bow has been DJing at various clubs around the country. On TV Gareth took part in two series of Dancing On Ice and joined the band Boys Allowed for the second series of The Big Reunion.

Gareth’s angelic voice made him stand out but so did his debilitating stammer which left him struggling to say his name. As a result he has constantly raised awareness of stammering in interviews on TV, radio and in the press and joined the McQuire Programme to gain control of his speaking voice. His work as a coach for the programme was shown on a BBC documentary called Stop My Stammer and, to provide courses to help children suffering from the condition, he has opened Gareth Gates Stammer School.

A self-confessed workaholic, during a period of vocal rest following surgery for injured vocal cords, Gareth developed Cuppanut, an award-winning, hot, coconut-based beverage which is now stocked in retailers across the country. Wanting to share his skills and inspire the next generation, he founded Fates Academy based in Manchester for children interested in the performing arts and is often involved in classes.

Gareth’s hectic lifestyle sees him in the gym most days – wherever he happens to be. This together with a healthy diet gives him the energy to pursue his business interests, which give him drive and focus, and his career in music and performing, which are his absolute passions.

This is just a flavour of Gareth’s achievements, to see more detail and join in the conversation please visit the Forum.
