Khelda
This original musical, written by ex-Busted singer/songwriter James Bourne and writer/composer Elliot Davis, was commissioned and produced by YMT at the Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell in 2009. You can see more from this production here. It was subsequently optioned by Kevin Wallace for professional production and it will now premiere at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds in June 2012.We believe this is the first time a musical commissioned for non-professional performance by a youth arts organisation has moved into the professional industry . Composer Elliot Davis and Director Steven Dexter will be joining the YMT national auditions 2012 team, and as well as looking for actors, singers, dancers, musicians and technicians for our next season, they will also be scouting for talent to join the Loserville cast. YMT auditions can be booked here. Tickets for Loserville, which will be performed from 16th June - 14th July 2012, are available to book via the West Yorkshire Pla
Khelda
Welcome to Loserville. It's 1971. Michael Dork may be a computer geek but he's invented something that could change the world. He's also discovered girls: a prospect (almost) as exciting as his love of binary.Holly is the girl: she has the looks and brains and wants to be the first woman in space - well, this is 1971! But will she want Michael? Eddie wants a fast ride to the top and doesn't care who gets trampled along the way. Leia just wants Eddie. Or Eddie's babies - well, she thinks she does. Michael's friends are all set to change the course of history, fashion and dating - in no particular order, but just as soon as possible, especially the dating bit. Loserville is a new musical written by Elliot Davis and James Bourne (inspired by his Son of Dork album Welcome To Loserville). Meet the Class of 1971. This is their story and now it's a musical. I am very pleased the new project is a new musical. Even if it seems its only for 1 month? Or have I read that wrong?
Guest NicolaJayne
Just realised this is the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, its about time that the northern fans had something up there. So pleased for them and for Gareth. Thanks Val for the date change of Momentous Musicals, I was sweating a bit and fearing it would be while I was away but as its the 19th July should be OK. Things are really moving for Gareth and as you say he must be very highly thought of for them to change the date. :jump: Thanks for the Info on Loserville Inge. I would love to see this and not been to Yorkshire for ages so could combine it with seeing my sister but got to get hubby to agree which might not be possible. Val4Gareth
Gareth+Gates,+Aaron+Sidwell+&+Lil'+Chris+lead+WYP+Loserville.html Gareth Gates, Aaron Sidwell & Lil' Chris lead WYP Loserville Date: 19 April 2012 Casting has been announced for West Yorkshire Playhouse's forthcoming production of new British musical Loserville with Aaron Sidwell, Gareth Gates and Lil' Chris joining the cast of Elliot Davis and James Bourne's new musical. Directed by Steven Dexter, Loserville will open at the Leeds venue's Quarry Theatre on 26 June (previews from 18 June), running to 14 July 2012. Set in 1971, Loserville sees computer geek Michael Dork about to invent something revolutionary, however he has also discovered… girls. Aaron Sidwell (EastEnders) plays super-geek and computer wiz kid Michael, with Gareth Gates (Les Miserables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat) in the role of Michael’s nemesis and school rich kid Eddie. Lil' Chris (Rock School) plays sci-fi obsessed Francis. They are joined in the cast by Charlotte Harwood (Legally Blonde tour) as Eddie’s girlfriend, Eliza Hope Bennett (Inkheart) who takes on the role of beautiful and smart Holly and newcomer Richard Lowe plays Michael’s best friend Lucas. Musician and songwriter James Bourne has written four number one hit songs and played to sold-out arenas across the UK as a member of pop-rock bands Busted and Son of Dork. As an artist and songwriter it is estimated Bourne has sold over 6 million records. Davis’ musical Best Frends and Butterflies won the TicketMaster Composer Award and Best Musical for Young People. He co-wrote the music for Once Upon a Time at the Adelphi which won the TMA Award for Outstanding Musical and has also written documentaries for the BBC on music stars from the Bee Gees to Freddie Mercury. Yorksheather
I would like to go to this if I have someone to go with , not far to Leeds . I've seen Jame's Bourne ( from Busted ) tweeting about this recently , but never thought about Gareth being in it . Not so good for anyone booked for Wimbledon who can't make it on the Thursday . Yorksheather
I'm not sure if it did get to the West End , I know they have showcased it somewhere ( I can't remember where, but I read that this afternoon ) It does say Loseville is Premiering at Leeds . Some info on the songs here , they did put it out on an album http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_to_Loserville
Guest NicolaJayne
I'm sure I read on one video that it had been to the WE but it says under another video Heather posted promotion before it comes to the WE so a bit confused now.
Snowdrop
It's not been on in the West End. I think there were a couple of performances of an earlier version of it, but not a full production, and it has probably changed. It looks like this production will be the first proper performances of the show, and if it works, and looks like it has legs, and is popular enough, it could transfer to the West End. That seems to be the intention. Hopefully there will be lots of press and tv appearances, and performances!
SueEl
Read on internet, that it successfully was performed in Bracknell (south parks arts centre) in August 2009 with the intention for the West End destination.
eternal
Delighted the news was another musical role. This is a great opportunity for Gareth. Looks like a young cast and a Glee like production. Loved the link to the video Heather and the storyline sounds like it will suit Gareth immensely. Twitter seems to be buzzing with the news and lots of people saying they have booked already. Congrats to Gareth for getting the part.
