Guest NicolaJayne
Gareth is entering a whole new world now as a racehorse owner, hope it wins lots of races for him. . He hasn't revealed its name yet, never know it may be running at Ascot , I would definately back it. Thank you for posting it here Val and for the lovely pic.
eternal
This is great new for Gareth. How exciting! Here's a little bit about his trainer (ex jockey) http://www.richardhughesracing.co.uk/about/ Seems he had his first win yesterday as a trainer. Good luck to them.
Kirsty
Do we think Gareth is riding it himself or he will have a jockey? X
Yorksheather
Thanks for the information on Richard Hughes Eternal , I always thought jockeys were short , so 5' 10'' seems tall, although his weight is very low . I can't imagine Gareth being a jockey Kirsty
Kirsty
That's what I was thinking! Xx

maria_1981
How does this horse riding thing work? in other words what is Gareth's actual involvement? sorry I don't have a clue how it all works unless of course he was the jockey.
Guest NicolaJayne
Gareth is the owner not the jockey, jockeys have to be small. , I just hope it is a good one and brings Gareth a lot of money in by winning races as if it doesn't win races then it will cost him a lot of money. Think he will have to pay the trainer and jockeys wages.also upkeep of the horse and entering races. It is a very expensive hobby Maria.
eternal
There's an interesting article here about being a horse owner: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/investing/9862223/How-to-invest-in-a-racehorse.html
Guest NicolaJayne
The article is interesting Chris and proves what I thought, you would have to be very lucky to make any money from it, and are much more likely to loose a substansional amount. I worry for Gareth and wonder if it's a wise move and if he really knows what he has let himself in for.
maria_1981
Thank you for the information Chris and Elaine. Hopefully Gareth is sharing the horse with several others so it's not all his loss if the horse doesn't win enough races, either way I hope he knows what he's let himself in for like you say Elaine.
Barbara
Very surprised and also a bit worried about Gareth putting his well earned money into horse racing.
KGates
I'm sure it'll be a good investment, and something that Gareth will have considered and thought a lot about before making the commitment. I own two horses myself, not race horses and they do take a lot of looking after, but they bring lots of fun as well. Gareth's horse looks like a stunning horse.
eternal
Interesting to read your comments Katie (from a horse owner too).
eternal
We have now learned Gareth's horse is called Bunbury (wonder if you can choose any name or does it have to be from an allocation)? We have been told too his first race was Monday 8th Feb 16. Do we know how it did?
KGates
Unfortunately I think Bunbury was a non-runner for the race. The race was 3pm at Wolverhampton. Here is a link to the results http://www.skysports.com/racing/results/full-result/710902/wolverhampton/08-02-2016/download-the-coral-app-store-maiden-stakes (hope it works.) This is Bunbury's profile http://www.skysports.com/racing/form-profiles/horse/909814/bunbury Bunbury Age: 4 (Foaled February 23rd, 2012) Sex: Bay Colt Breeding: Dansili - Ithaca (USA) (Distant View (USA)) Trainer: R Hughes Owner: The Villains
Yorksheather
Thanks for posting Katie, all the links worked fine , very interesting to read , not that I know anything about horse racing , does non runner mean it didn't set off ? I wonder who else owns the horse with Gareth - The Villains sound more than one person , doesn't it ?
eternal
It always surprises me on here what links can take us into different directions and different worlds. I find it interesting to learn so much about something I wouldn't have a clue about. does non runner mean it didn't set off ? That is what I was wondering.
KGates
I think a non runner is where there is an issue with the horse at the start of the race, it might not go into the stalls or set off, though this is just a guess.

eternal
Great news Gareth's horse has won. I see on Heather's link the owners are 'The Villians' and it looks like the jockey is wearing claret and blue. Could they be Aston Villa supporters?
