Gareth Gates says he is still "learning" about his 5th Story bandmates Dane Bowers, Kenzie, Kavana and Adam Rickitt, who will all appear on 'Big Reunion' series two.

Gareth Gates is still "learning" about his 'Big Reunion' bandmates.

The former 'Pop Idol' star is set to appear on the second series of the hit ITV2 reality show, forming a new boy band - 5th Story - with Dane Bowers, Adam Rickitt, Kavana and former Blazin' Squad star Kenzie, and he says the group are still getting to know each other.

He told BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards on Wednesday (22.01.14): "We've not really spent that much time together. We're all sort of learning about each other for now."

Gareth, 29, is also competing on the final series of 'Dancing on Ice' on ITV and he admits working on both shows has left him "very tired".

He lamented: "I was asked 'Big Reunion' ages ago and then I was asked to do the last series of 'Dancing on Ice'. It's fun but it's a lot of work."

The 'Anyone of Us' hitmaker is getting used to sharing a stage with other singers as he's so used to being a solo artist.

Gareth added: "I've been a solo artist, so it's hard to be sharing up on stage now, but it's fun. The lads are all fun. We're having a lot of fun on and off stage."

Gareth - who was runner-up to Will Young on the first ever 'Pop Idol' in 2002 - is looking forward to touring with 5th Story and the other 'Big Reunion' bands, including Eternal and A1, and can't wait to perform in big arenas he once headlined.

He said: "So the show airs on February 6th and I think it's on for five or six weeks. Then we go on tour. I think we're playing places like The O2 [in London], Manchester ... all those big stages again."

Thank you for the video from the T &A Chantel, not seen it before, very surprised to hear the group may carry on after the TV show, this has come as a bit of a blow to me. As it means that Gareth's original Band with Pete must have disbanded. what a shame if that is the case as I thought they were so good together and as they have written the songs together for Gareth's next album. Would be interested to know what other fans think about this.

If they are successful as a band then of course they would be silly not to carry on, however It is disappointing after hoping for another album from Gareth. Sure whatever happens, he will try do what's best for his career and either way just to have him back where we can see more of him will be good. Still unsure about the whole band thing with the other guys, but looking forward to finding out how they are together.

You are right Laura, I am also very interested to seeing how they get on and what they sound like. :)

Got a little bit in the TV mag in the Mirror today about them, with the photo of the group. They say that they are very much anticipated, and it says they got the name 5th story (because they are 5), but they also joked about being 5 floor up and if they fall, they fall from a big height.)

I felt the same after reading the ITV article and asked Gareth on Twitter if it was going to interfere with his solo career and have now just seen this posted on his FB page. Certainly put my mind at ease.

Gareth is very excited to be working with 5th story and is very much enjoying being in a band. However we would like to reassure fans that this won't be affecting his solo plans - and we will have more news in that area very soon!

Stay tuned - and thanks for your continued belief and support in Gareth

Good to read that from the Admin team, have to say it wouldn't be unusual if Gareth was to find a way to juggle both the band and solo, we know he certainly likes to keep busy. Lovely to know there is still solo plans, and then I guess it's a bonus for us if all goes well with the band and there is also that to enjoy :)

Ahh that's was got Gareth's admin reassuring us, i'm glad, although i knew he wouldn't give up his solo career, it did cross my mind that what if he was to decide to stick with them.

I guess maybe the group could continue after the show with another band member to replace Gareth or maybe just the 4 of them.

It's interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on 5th Story continuing after the TV Show and reassuring to receive the message from Admin that puts my mind at rest about Gareth's solo career. But I did love Gareth's Band with Pete and company and hope to see them performing together In the future.

There was an article in the sun on Saturday about the Big Reunion but as is usual with the sun it wasn't very complimentary. Headlines

They said we should be band (you sure that's what they meant boys)

In smaller letters it says "group you never wanted ( with wanted crossed out ) thought you'd see.

These are the faded Pop Idols ITV have cobbled together for "supergroup" 5th Story in the Big reunions new series.

Of the name Dane joked"You need to be 5 storeys up if you jump from a building so you don't make it.

Says a bit about each contestant
