A new UK production of the Broadway musical will open at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton in April before visiting Birmingham, Bradford, Oxford, Dublin, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, Blackpool, Peterborough, Wolverhampton, Norwich, Leicester and Aberdeen.

The show will then run for five weeks in London at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall prior to visiting Plymouth.

The SpongeBob Musical cast

Featuring on the cast will be Divina de Campo as as Sheldon J. Plankton and Gareth Gates as Squidward at select venues*.

They’ll be joined by Lewis Cornay as SpongeBob, Irfan Damani as Patrick, Chrissie Bhima as Sandy, Richard J Hunt as Mr Krabs, Sarah Freer as Pearl, Eloise Davies as Mrs Puff, Hannah Lowther as Karen and Rebecca Lisewski as Mayor.

They are joined by Sam Beveridge, Jeremiah Olaleye, Eleanor Turiansky, Rhys Batten and Reece Kerridge.

 *Gareth Gates is currently scheduled to perform at Southampton, Birmingham, Oxford, Dublin, Belfast, Cardiff, Blackpool & Norwich.

Gareth Gates and Divina de Campo are to star in the UK premiere of The SpongeBob Musical.

Based on the animated TV series by Stephen Hillenburg, the musical has a book by Kyle Jarrow with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I. and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton. Additional music by Tom Kitt. Musical production conceived by Tina Landau.

The new UK production is directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson, with choreographer Fabian Aloise, designer Steve Howell, Musical Supervisor Mark Crossland, Musical Director Marcus Carter-Adams, Costume Designer Sarah Mercade, Lighting and Video Designer Ben Bull, Sound Designer Ben Harrison, Costume and Wig Supervisor Megan Rarity, Associate Choreographer Paris Green and Casting Director Harry Blumenau Casting. I was just about to post that Gareth had been on BBC Breakfast but Doris beat me to it.

He was on at 8.50 with Davina de Campo for nearly 10 mins. Programme available for next 24 hours only. He faced his fear of live interviews like he said he would on Instagram. He looked and sounded wonderful xx
